Throughout my Studio Arts major I explored fashion as a form of art. While my peers focused on more traditional fine arts such as ceramics and painting- I was focused on ‘wearable art’. My first collection (can be viewed here) visually investigates if art and fashion are one of the same. The collection intermixed conventional fine arts mediums such as acrylic paint, paper towels and canvas with knitwear, recycled fabrics and safety pins. This discourse was then presented to FADS members who created their own interpretations and showcased in ‘The Gallery’ fashion show. The venue of the show had it’s own gallery of screen prints done by Syracuse University’s Screenprinting Club, with some of these screen prints turned into outfits made my skilled student designers which were also presented in the fashion show. FADS makeup artists took to the theme by creating their own mini-art pieces on each of the models faces, using bold colors and striking lines. The conclusion; the idea that fashion and art are synonymous.
