‘Night Circus’ was inspired by a book by the same name by Erin Morgenstien which I loved growing up. It revolved around a circus full of mystery, magic and intrigue that was set in tents of black and white. I wanted to capture that essence in the creative direction of this fashion show. The first half of the show featured student designs while the second half of the show showcased collaborating designer Khangle’s ‘Red’ and ‘Gold’ collection who we partnered with. While the set of the show was filled with balloons, red and white striped tents and a tarot card reader in a dark corner, the runway itself was circular- much like that of inside a circus tent. The spotlighted rings within the circular runway provided showcase points for the audience to get a closer look at the designs. Each model had the same triangle marks under their eyes, a symbol of circus clowns.
“Throughout the evening, the audience was treated to a parade of red, black and white high fashion clearly inspired by circus performers. With dialogue spoken by the clown Pennywise from the 2017 movie adaptation of Stephen King’s thriller IT popping up between bars in the music, contortionists with dark eye makeup and the occasional red balloon, the show was both whimsical and chilling.” Olivia S Bosar for The Newhouse Publication.
